The Importance of Creating a Bucket List

http://bit.ly/2mpcEs6At our funeral homes in Bellingham and Ferndale we hear a lot about things people missed out on in their lives. It can be quite difficult to hear this and is very upsetting knowing many people didn’t have a chance to get to do the things they really wanted to in life. It’s important to make the most of your life and seize every opportunity you can because you never know when it will end.

This brings up something we feel is very important and want to talk about, which is the idea of a bucket list. Chances are you’ve heard the term before but do you know where it comes from and have you created one?

There are a number of different ideas as to where the term comes from but the main thing is that it’s derived from the term “kick the bucket”, which as I’m sure you’ve heard being used to describe someone’s passing. Why the bucket though? That’s where there’s a few different ideas. One dates back to the days when people were hung and the bucket would be kicked away as they were hanged. Another relates to pigs being slaughtered and the last idea is that a bucket of holy water used to be brought to the home of the deceased to sprinkle over the body.

Now that you’ve got an idea where the term came from let’s talk about some ideas around our area! There are some beautiful places in the Washington area and things to do that would make great items for your bucket list. One of the many ideas that seems like it would be great fun to try out is the opportunity to stay in the floating cabins on Ross Lake in the North Cascades. The scenery is absolutely stunning and you won’t find the same experience very easily anywhere else. They’re very remote and only accessible by ferry or hiking so you’ll have a very peaceful experience.

If that doesn’t sound like your idea of a good time and you’d like something a bit easier to access there’s always Long Beach. For a real bucket list adventure, it would be ideal to time it out with the International Kite Festival. If you go then you’ll find a beautiful sandy beach with thousands of kites flying, talk about a gorgeous sight!

As many wonderful activities as there are around our state there’s endless different activities you could add to your list. The opportunities are truly endless and the most important part is that you’re creating it for you and everything you want to do rather than what everyone around you wants.

We care about you and want to ensure your life is lived to the fullest. So, when that day comes way down the road we know you’ve lived a full life and couldn’t have asked for anything more.

Have you already created a bucket list? If so, let us know we would love to hear about it!
