Sharing Spring Family Activity Ideas in Whatcom County

Our long winter is coming to an end and Spring is right around the corner. The change in season to Spring is very special to our funeral directors here in Bellingham, and Ferndale. Being that our purpose is to help you with end of life planning it can feel a bit isolated at times. When Spring arrives there’s a whole new sense of beauty and life in the world. It’s a refreshing change to see the trees and flowers start to bloom and many more people are out and about.

In an effort to celebrate this change in season and show just what it has to offer I’ve come up with a list of some great Spring activities to enjoy as a family.

If you want to enjoy the outdoors and get some fresh air, what better way to do that then by enjoying the forest. A spectacular place to go is Berthusen Park which is located just west of Lynden. You’ll find 20 acres of old growth forest that has overnight camping, picnic areas, and plenty of walking and mountain biking trails.

As the season progresses a little further into April there’s a wonderful farmers market in Bellingham that will be sure to please the entire family. You’ll find plenty of foods and other goodies to choose from as well as live music for your entertainment. For even more fun the last day of every month is kid’s vending day so you can support the young aspiring entrepreneurs!

Those activities may sound great when the weather is nice but that isn’t always the case and sometimes you need indoor activities to enjoy. If you’re looking for something different then you need to try out roller skating! It’s a great activity that’s become a thing of the past and would be plenty of fun for the whole family. Whether you need classes for the young ones, a birthday celebration, or just some leisure skating around the rink there’s something to please you.

One last idea for those wet days is the Bellingham Railway Museum to get a glimpse into just how important trains once were. There’s plenty of displays, an interactive model train exhibit, and even a train simulator. It’s a fairly low cost of admission at only $9 for a family of four and children under 2 are free. With trains not being nearly as common as they once were this is the perfect way to share some important history with your kids.

The moments we share as a family are so important and being a funeral director in Bellingham and Ferndale I see too many families torn apart much too soon. Take the time to enjoy those small things in life and create memories that will last a lifetime together because you never know what life has in store for you. I hope you enjoyed this list of some fun ideas and would love to hear how you enjoy spending time as a family!
